New York’s Animation Boutiques: From Abrahams to Zander
摘要
California studios often describe New York’s animation industry as ‘boutique,’ though this term is not widely recognized in the Big Apple. A boutique, defined as a small company providing specialized services, accurately reflects New York’s animation scene, making the term useful for highlighting one of the main differences between East Coast and West Coast operations. While hundreds of animation studios came and went in New York over the decades a few stood out as mainstays of the industry. Most had some connection to the influence of John and Faith Hubley. This chapter documents several of the primary boutiques of the period.
