This chapter discusses the increasing importance of China policy in the election programmes of the European Parliament elections. Due to China’s role as the EU’s largest trading partner and its geopolitical ambitions, China policy has evolved from a predominantly economic issue to a more comprehensive policy field, which now also includes security policy and human rights aspects. The analysis conducted for this chapter is based on a quantitative and qualitative examination of the election programmes of six major European parties and shows that the focus on China has both increased over the years and witnessed significant changes.
