The European integration process and EU-wide social work lack an enforceable social foundation. The European House lacks a solid floor in the form of an actually EU-wide accessible, sufficient and empowering minimum income for all inhabitants. To this end, the German National Poverty Conference (NAK) and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), among others, published an expert opinion in 2019 on the poverty-proof design of minimum income (social assistance, basic security, citizen’s income, etc.) in the EU member states. This and the present text confront intra- and inter-state anti-solidarity races with a local to global perspective that can be linked to debates on economic stability and prosperity as well as the welfare science and practice foundations of social work.
