At the time of writing this chapter, there are already many articles, books, YouTube videos, and classes that encourage or teach systems thinking. However, Chapter 8 showed that the supply of systems-oriented fresh talent is low relative to the demand that in some states like Colorado can pay five figures starting salaries without a super high educational or experience barrier to entry. Our observations are that use of systems thinking terminology is growing but linear compartmentalized mental models are still dominant in individuals and organizations. For systems thinking to balance this linear compartmentalized thinking, we need individuals and organizations to adopt a systems thinking culture. Chapter 5 listed the systems principles that underpin the systems thinking philosophy. Chapter 6 helped us develop a sensitivity for this philosophy to see the principles in action in our daily lives. Chapter 7 gave the process and behavioral guidelines for applying systems principles to real-world problems. This chapter discusses the individual and organizational journey toward a culture that fosters systems thinking ending with a section that discusses how we would potentially measure progress on this journey.
