Health is not always the sole factor that determines how one views ageing. The country’s history and political context play major roles. Older individuals considered immigrants are impacted differently regarding the establishment and access to services. This chapter discusses how political events in five countries impact social work with elderly populations. The chapter reviews application of current social work theory and practice modalities from the authors’ perspectives and from available cultural positions. Utilising the strength-perspective helps these practitioners focus on the cultural strengths of the older adult.
