The introduction outlines the state-of-the-art by discussing the mobilities turn in the humanities and by highlighting the need for further dialogue between mobilities research and postcolonial literary studies in order to better understand the diversity and relationality of postcolonial mobilities. The chapter frames the context of Afroeuropean mobilities, explains the methodological approach applied in the study, and introduces the selection criteria for the research material. The chapter also discusses the importance of paying attention to literary strategies in the analysis of mobilities in literature. It proposes suggestions as to what elements to investigate when exploring the formal manifestations of mobility, that is, the poetics of mobility of literary texts. The introduction summarizes the contents of the analysis chapters, focusing on educational mobilities, leisure travel, diasporic returns, work-related mobilities, and clandestine migratory journeys, respectively.
