Bleeding Risk of Immune Thrombocytopenia and Its Management
摘要
After a short introduction on the epidemiology of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and its pathogenetic mechanisms, we will present the principles that should be taken into account for evaluating the need to initiate a specific treatment and the role of the various available options with regard to the actual platelet count and an overall assessment of individual risk. An epidemiological perspective will then be provided on the frequency and severity of bleeding in published large series of patients and on the available tools for grading its severity. Based on this information, different scenarios from life-threatening to minor bleeding are presented together with an outline of the appropriate management.
