This chapter offers an opportunity to understand the transnational dimension of cultural cleansing dynamics. The chapter examines the monasteries of Dadivank and Amaras and the Hellenistic city of Tigranakert, where excavation spaces became an ideological tool, which was bombed during the war and vandalized after the war. The concept of cultural cleansing helps us to understand how and why sacred spaces became borders. After the war, these places saw the emergence of new pilgrimage practices that got a trans-border dimension as they de facto transcended borders and military zones. Pilgrimages became a means of protection since the local powers and international organizations could not protect Armenian heritage.
