This chapter presents history and challenges of the ethnography of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the censorship anthropologists faced in both the Soviet and the Azerbaijani contexts. The ethnography is contextualized in the post-Soviet conflicts and wars, with a major emphasis on six biographies which include different layers of memory and experiences.
