This chapter explores the negative consequences of globalization, focusing on immigration, the expansion of capitalism, and the broader human condition. It analyzes the postmodern literary techniques in Yuri Herrera’s Signs Preceding the End of the World and Jorge Volpi’s Season of Ash. Herrera offers a poetics of resistance, condemning the alienation of identity caused by globalization as a form of cultural oppression. In response, the novel subtly recovers linguistic and cultural traditions to confront and resist the cultural erasures that globalization brings. In contrast, Volpi’s novel, incorporating multiple narrators and historical aspects of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, presents a sophisticated exploration of postmodern literary forms and the impact of globalization worldwide.
