Today, incentive mechanisms are used to encourage practices that promote intensification of cocoa agroforestry landscapes (CAL) through the use of farm inputs, renewal efforts, as well the integration of timber and fruit-producing trees into these landscapes. In this book chapter, we profile the effects of incentives mechanisms (training schemes and the provision of seedlings) that have been formulated and implemented by the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) to advance sustainable intensification pathways within CAL in the Efoulan municipality located in the South Region of Cameroon in Central Africa. Results indicate that these incentive mechanisms have had a great effect in the municipality as all respondents who had received seedlings, training on seedlings production techniques, and training on tree domestication and improvement techniques were putting into practice these techniques. However, this research identifies a considerable number of challenges that impede the implementation of these incentive mechanisms and proffer possible options for overcoming these challenges. It is hoped that an in-depth analysis of this nature would contribute in enhancing the role of these incentive mechanisms in advancing sustainable intensification of CAL, thereby addressing overarching issues like food insecurity, deforestation, forest degradation, and other developmental challenges.
