Frente Amplio in Office: Student Activism and New Political Leadership
摘要
This chapter examines the transformation of student movement leaders from the 2011 protests into key political figures in Gabriel Boric’s 2022 government. Through detailed analysis of eleven former student leaders who assumed important positions in Boric’s first cabinet, it traces their evolution from activism to institutional politics. The study focuses particularly on three prominent figures: Camila Vallejo, Gabriel Boric, and Giorgio Jackson, analyzing how their leadership styles and political discourse evolved between 2011 and 2022. While highlighting their successful transition to government, the analysis reveals how these leaders—predominantly from elite universities—had to adapt their radical student movement positions to the pragmatic demands of governance, raising questions about representation and political transformation.
