The Galapagos Islands are at risk due to heavy fossil fuel use, with energy consumption spread across electricity, transportation, tourism, and the environment. This study presents an energy assessment that shows significant potential for renewable energy, leading to energy transition scenarios divided into conservative, mild, and advanced decarbonization. A model from 2022 to 2050 using “urbs” optimizes energy system operation based on cost and resource availability. Real-time demand data, including population growth and economic expansion, is used for accuracy. Validation is based on 2018 data for energy balance and emissions. Fleet electrification and hydrogen generation are feasible solutions for achieving complete decarbonization in electricity generation. This paper also presents an economic study highlighting the benefits of investing in a low-carbon energy system for the islands, improving security, sustainability, affordability, and enhancing socio-economic standards.
