Volume of the Human Hippocampus Using MRI
摘要
The hippocampus is the memory centre of the brain and is a part of the brain that plays a role in transferring information from short-term memory to long-term memory. It has an important role in learning and spatial memory. It is known that the volume of the hippocampus changes with age and even decreases with increasing age. Hippocampus volume assessment has clinical importance. It is known that hippocampus volume decreases, especially in neurodegenerative diseases such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and dementia. There are many studies in the literature in which the volume of the hippocampus was obtained. In these studies, different software programs were used to obtain the hippocampus volume. The most frequently used software programs are FreeSurfer and SPM12. In this section, we will show how the hippocampus volume is obtained using these software programs. At the same time, we will also give information about how the hippocampus volume is obtained with VolBrain, which has been used in web-based software in recent years.
