Chronic and severe conditions necessitate the collaboration of comprehensive, interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, social workers, peers, and other allied professionals, as well as systems (payment, treatment, associations, and licensure) that recognize and support their work effectively. As practitioners and leaders geared up to understand the complex systems that govern the mental health and substance use disorders landscape, it is crucial to consider the untold number of people doing work at the systems, micro, and mezzo levels.
