摘要
“Reducing the Stigma” explores the stigma that impacts care for individuals with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Behavioral Health (BH) conditions, including mental health diagnoses. This chapter will clarify essential terms used throughout the textbook, such as addiction, SUDs, BH, co-occurring disorders, stigma, burnout, interdisciplinary teams, and empathy. In addition, it will introduce the Substance and Alcohol Relationship-Centered (SARC) model to enhance our development as interdisciplinary teams and our role in helping people recover. The chapter will outlines the effects of burnout on helping professionals and examine the specific influence of stigma related to language. Narrative storytelling and classroom discussions are employed to create a personal and professional connection with the topic for readers throughout the textbook.
