This study reports the usability challenges of electric vehicle interfaces (EVIs) which serve as the primary controls for the entire vehicles. Despite the availability of numerous EVI designs, their usability has not received sufficient attention. To address this gap, we conducted a focus group study with 31 designers to evaluate the usability issues of 18 distinct EVIs. Our analysis, which combined qualitative and quantitative methods, revealed major challenges related to usability that highlight critical areas for improvement in EVI. Moreover, the study identified relevant variables that influence EVIs’ usability.
