Women Empowerment and Gender Diversity on Boards—A Review

Keeping up with the rapidly changing corporate environment and modernizing the composition of the board of directors has been one of the latest hot themes in boardroom discussions. The efficacy of the boardroom may be strengthened and contributed to by increasing gender diversity. Even though empirical evidence does not conclusively show that adding more women to boards of directors would directly improve companies’ financial performance, many nations and business organizations have this issue at the top of their agendas because it can show a strong commitment to good corporate governance practices. Gender diversity can be understood as an equitable or nondiscriminatory representation of people from different genders. The ratio of men to women on corporate boards, which facilitates better decision-making and increases company performance, is the main aspect of corporate gender diversity. The importance of gender diversity in corporate leadership roles is being emphasized in a growing body of literature. Many research studies have shown the benefits of gender heterogeneity on firms’ financial performance, factors influencing the gender composition of boards as well as firm’s policies, a decrease in corporate risk-taking behavior, improved governance excellence, better health corporate environmental practices, and decreased corporate environmental violations, and women on boards and their association with high CSR ratings. By emphasizing the crucial fact and strength of women's tech experience, which is regarded as necessary to combat the pace of present and future technology disruption, this study reflects the future role of women in the boardroom.
