Advancing technology for successful utilization of hydrogen as energy carrier is the subject of investigation for different countries in the world. The potential of replacing natural gas and fossil fuels by hydrogen is proven effective for many applications. Designing this transformation is, however, unique to each case. Necessitating understanding the available infrastructure and investigating optimum ways of re-directing hydrogen energy. This document represents a research proposal to study the feasibility of using natural gas infrastructure in Oman to transport hydrogen. One of the major concerns related to using natural gas infrastructure to transport hydrogen is the incompatibility of this infrastructure with hydrogen gas in terms of material thermodynamic properties. Therefore, synergy of hydrogen within natural gas seems to be a promising solution if challenges can be identified and risks are minimized. In the current research proposal, we plan to use simulation and machine learning algorithms to predict the range of hydrogen to natural gas concentration ratio allowable for safe injection into the natural gas system in Oman. The investigation begins with data collection of infrastructures specification, identification of critical parameters, prediction of concentration ratio, and finally to perform optimization for best approaches that can be considered for future implementation of hydrogen energy in Oman.

摘要
