Evaluating Tourism Trends: Economics Impacts and Sustainability Implications
摘要
This paper aims to evaluate economic indicators within the tourism sector as measures of the sector’s performance and impacts on sustainability. The study utilizes secondary data sourced from the National Centre of Statistics and Information (NCSI), Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) for the period from 2019 to 2023. Descriptive statistics were applied to assess key industry indicators, including GDP contribution, employment rates, inbound and outbound tourism expenditures, and the growth of accommodation and hospitality activities. The findings reveal positive trends in these indicators, underscoring the sector's potential to advance the government’s economic diversification goals. Nonetheless, to enhance long-term benefits and address potential negative impacts of tourism, it is critical for the government to implement comprehensive strategies that prioritize sustainable tourism practices.
