Escapism, a phenomenon assumed to be limited to leisure and fun, is investigated in this study as more critical among tourists in rural tourism destinations. In this research utilizing the Importance-Performance Mapping Analysis, various factors contributing to tourist satisfaction are examined, and escapism is identified as a significant psychological need regarding the need for fun. This research compares rural tourist perceptions and evaluations of the distinct areas of enjoying the experiences, from the natural beauty to cultural heritage, and how this assessment affects the ultimate satisfaction and return intention. The sample utilized 300 rural tourists who completed a comprehensive questionnaire, and the analysis of the result using the IPMA mapping technique determined the most significant factors of tourism that contribute to positive enjoyment and emotions and more to behavior. The findings of this study suggest that escapism significantly increases the pleasure of the activities and deepens the affective engagement that, in turn, makes such experiences memorable and contributes to the tourists’ return. The research provides substantial practical advice for rural tourism destination management in making judgments on resources and investment allocation based on the psychological needs of tourists for escape motivation and emotional gratification. The consequences of this study are essential for rural tourism’s sustainability, offering a way of enhancing the tourist experience and destination competitiveness.
