Land Use Land Cover and Its Impact on Groundwater Resources in India

In the current context, various land use patterns have resulted in rapid changes in land cover worldwide. Land use and land cover dynamics are key factors for developing nations and cities, and to comprehend the effects of urbanisation on resources in any region, the study area is in and surrounding Shaikpet, a division of Hyderabad district in Telanagana state, India. The study's goals are to use remote sensing and GIS technology to examine the land use, land cover pattern, and water quality in the study area of Shaikpet, with special attention to watershed areas. When the ground water dynamics of the research region are observed to be significant by the use of Resources at -LISS IV satellite data for land use land cover change detection, Water samples are obtained from various sampling stations and subjected to laboratory analysis in accordance with established protocols to determine physical, chemical, and biological parameters. The findings indicate that the study area's surface water samples contain bacteria in the form of coli and that the permissible limits for EC and TDS concentrations are exceeded. The study’s pH levels are within the WHO-permissible range 6.5–8.5, turbidity, which shows the presence of dissolved and suspended solids in the water, electrical conductivity, and TDS levels are all high; the water’s pale red colour, which indicates the presence of suspended solids in the water, and the high nitrate concentrations suggest that the water in the study area. According to the water quality examination, surface water needs to be treated before consumption since it has been contaminated by the direct flow of municipal sewage into fresh water bodies. There are trends showing that the research region's cropland is shifting to agricultural plantations, built-up regions for habitations, and a large portion of the land remaining as open scrub.
