This chapter examines the multifaceted issue of Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG), investigating its various forms, underlying causes, and the pervasive phenomenon of victim-blaming. The chapter defines VAWG in accordance with the Istanbul Convention (2011), emphasising its diverse manifestations across both private and public spheres. It explores key forms of violence, including physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, and socio-economic violence, while also underscoring their profound impact on individuals and communities. Acknowledging the influence of patriarchal ideologies, cultural norms, and historical traditions in perpetuating VAWG, the chapter stresses the importance of challenging victim-blaming narratives and fostering supportive environments for survivors. By advocating for education, raising awareness, and promoting legal reforms, the chapter highlights the crucial role of society in shaping a more equitable future free from VAWG.
