This paper investigates environmental news coverage and water management policy reforms in 15 Middle Eastern countries from 2015 to 2024 with the framework of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6). The Middle Eastern countries are among the driest region as well as the water-scarce areas on a global scale, confronted with severe challenges such as climate change, pollution, and rapid population growth. This study employs advanced text analysis methods, encompassing large language models, to systematically assess and explore the role of environmental news coverage in water policy in these countries. The findings reveal that environmental news in the Middle East plays a positive role in water policy reforms and the implementation of SDG6. The study emphasizes the interaction between media coverage and policy formulation towards SDG6. The analysis indicates that robust environmental reporting can act as a catalyst for policy change, highlighting the necessity of integrating environmental news into the broader discourse on water policy to achieve the objectives of SDG6 in the Middle East.
