In this largely complete head, we can see how the cranial skeleton has continued to develop. Parts of the frontal bone are present, the frontal processes of the maxilla reach far up to the cranial side; there is even a paired nasal bone already present. The mandible also shows both, the condylar and the coronoid process, but a functioning secondary temporomandibular joint is not yet formed. Meckel’s cartilage with its malleus still articulates with the incus during the movements of the mandible. Of course, all the nerves are already very well developed. This reconstruction shows the superior alveolar nerves particularly well, which branch widely into the region of the maxillary teeth (Figs. 25.1, 25.2, 25.3, 25.4, 25.5, 25.6, 25.7, 25.8, 25.9, 25.10, 25.11, 25.12, 25.13, 25.14, 25.15, 25.16, 25.17, 25.18, 25.19, and 25.20).
