Utilizing Strength-Based Positive Psychology Interventions to Enhance Students’ Well-Being and Mental Health in African Universities
摘要
Strength-based positive psychology interventions are vital methods of enhancing mental well-being and have a significant impact on alleviating mental health problems. Mental health has reached a level of global concern; the World Health Organization has recorded one hundred and sixteen million Africans living with mental health. The posited statistics have shown that climate-related challenges and other factors are detrimental to the health of Africans. While there are traditional counselling measures, Africa has limited healthcare facilities and high rates of poverty. Thus, this book chapter proposes vital positive psychology interventions that significantly improve well-being and alleviate mental health problems. This chapter defines positive psychology. Then, the chapter discusses strength-based positive psychology interventions in boosting students’ mental health. Then, the chapter discusses ways of building strength-based positive psychology interventions. Moreover, the chapter discusses the implications for clinicians and practitioners working with higher education students.
