Pain that arises from the atlantoaxial (AAJ) and atlantooccipital joint (AOJ) causes occipitocervical pain syndrome, which is increasingly recognized. The literature that guides the diagnosis and management of pain from AAJ and AOJ is limited and includes a few studies. We aim to review the current information about the pain arising from AAJ and AOJ and also present an ultrasound-guided injection technique.
