Born in 1939, Clark grew up in East AustinEast Austin and soaked in the blues at local music venues such as the Victory GrillVictory Grill and Charlie’s PlayhouseCharlie’s Playhouse during the post-WWII period. An inspiring singer-songwriter, guitarist and bassist, he is a connective figure between older generations of blues musicians in East Austin and younger generations of white blueswhite blues musicians associated with the Antone’s sub-scene. On one hand, Clark started off his career around local Black music legends like T. D. BellBell, T.D., ErbieErbie BowserErbie BowserErbie Bowser, Grey GhostGrey Ghost, Hosea HargroveHargrove, Hosea and L. P. Pearson. He also performed with Blues Boy HubbardBlues Boy Hubbard and James PolkPolk, James, contributing to the breaking of racial barriers in Austin.
