A native Texan, born in San Angelo in 1986, Oscar OrnelasOrnelas, Oscar is a talented singer–songwriter and an energetic multi-instrumentalist. He combines saxophonesaxophone, pianopiano, and vocals and his passionate drive that has earned him a solid reputation both in TexasTexas and abroad. Oscar began playing music as a kid in his hometown, where he continues to perform regularly. Yet his career really took off upon his arrival in AustinAustin in 2014. Musically and socially, he grew up in the East AustinEast Austin bluesblues community, getting to perform weekly with beloved African-American musicians such as Harold McMillanMcMillan, Harold, Matthew RobinsonRobinson, Matthew, W. C. ClarkClark, W.C., Hosea HargroveHargrove, Hosea, BirdleggBirdlegg, JaboJabo, Margaret WrightWright, Margaret and Lavelle WhiteLavelle, White Miss, among others. Being a mainstay at East Austin jam sessions hosted at venues such as The Longbranch Inn, Kenny DorhamDorham, Kenny’s Backyard or the Big Easy Bar and Grill, he was also in constant interaction with younger up-and-coming local players such as Matthew Broadnax, Darius JacksonJackson, Darius or Jonathan Matthews.
