Maintaining and Generalizing Social Skills for Individuals with Autism
摘要
Challenges with social interaction (e.g., disinterest in socialization; deficits in how to socialize) are a core feature of autism spectrum disorder, with previous research indicating that autistic adults have experienced feelings of loneliness or isolation and difficulties in establishing or maintaining friendships. This chapter describes research on how to develop and maintain key social skills to promote improved outcomes for autistic children and adults. Discussed interventions include social-skills groups, peer-mediated interventions, script fading, video modeling, and behavioral skills training. The chapter includes discussions of practice considerations and directions for future research.
