Sustaining Toileting and Intimate-Care Skills
摘要
Successful toileting (i.e., urinary eliminations and bowel movements) and intimate hygiene (e.g., cleaning and washing of sexual body parts) can have important implications for community integration and health outcomes for individuals with autism. This chapter discusses the literature on teaching appropriate eliminations and self-initiations during toileting routines, helping individuals with autism to acquire skills related to menstrual and penile hygiene, and ways of balancing client privacy and teaching efficacy. Each topic includes a description of clinical considerations and directions for future research.
