When the Nose Goes Blind
摘要
Those who have lost their sense of smell miss a lot: the scent of lilacs in spring, the sea or freshly mowed meadows, the smell of a loved one, and the wonderful taste of their favorite food or wine. Because those who can no longer smell, can also no longer taste. A whole world without scents. Also, without their own body odor, or rather: without the ability to perceive it. Maybe I stink? Or have bad breath? Some with a “blind nose” wash several times a day or overdose on perfume because they know that their nose can no longer warn them. Not about sweat odor, not about spoiled food, and not when the milk is boiling over. A lost sense of smell often goes hand in hand with a reduced social life, and some of those afflicted even suffer from depression.
