This chapter examines Israel’s systematic weaponization of water and sanitation in Gaza, illustrating how these essential resources have been transformed into tools of control and deprivation. Gaza’s water crisis, exacerbated by repeated conflicts and prolonged blockades, has left millions without access to clean water and adequate sanitation, severely undermining efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): Water and Sanitation for All. The destruction of critical infrastructure, including water treatment plants and desalination facilities, has resulted in widespread contamination, contributing to severe public health crises, environmental degradation, and economic instability. Waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery have surged, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations, particularly children. The chapter explores the dire consequences of water scarcity on health, food security, and livelihoods while emphasizing the need for urgent international intervention to address the crisis. It highlights key factors influencing Gaza’s water crisis, including political blockade, military actions, and systemic neglect, which have collectively hindered sustainable development. Recommendations for recovery focus on rebuilding infrastructure, enhancing governance frameworks, and ensuring international accountability. The findings underscore the urgent necessity for a comprehensive, multifaceted approach to water management in Gaza to achieve sustainable resilience and long-term stability.
