This chapter introduces the interdisciplinary study of death, dying, and grief. It explores the motivations, benefits, and approaches for engaging with these topics. The chapter emphasizes an integrated sociological, psychological, and multicultural perspective in understanding and supporting death, dying, and grief. This is achieved by adopting the spiral model of grieving and healing, a multidisciplinary framework. The chapter outlines the historical evolution and recent developments of the death awareness movement. Additionally, it explores emerging trends such as diversity and the role of digital technology. Overall, death and grief education promote personal growth, professional competence, and a compassionate culture.
