Conducting Geocryological Field Work on the Territory of the Eastern Pamirs of the Alichur Valley (Tajikistan)

Geocryological field work was carried out on the territory of the Eastern Pamirs in the Alichur Valley (Tajikistan) in late April and early May 2023 with the participation of students from the Tajik branch of Moscow State University . The main purpose of the research was to familiarize with the methods of geocryology, including the analysis of geological information, route survey and the study of geocryological processes . In the course of the work, the processes of thermokarst, heaving, thermal erosion and the formation of stone ridges were identified, and the thickness of the seasonally thawed layer (STL), which ranged from 10 cm to 70 cm, was determined. Geocryological engineering drilling yielded results: frozen rocks with an ice content of more than 90% were found at depths of up to 0.5 m. Thermometry showed a surface temperature of 10 ℃ and 0.05 ℃ at the bottom of the well. The work confirmed the presence of permafrost in the highlands and the relevance of studying the climatic changes in the region. Methods for measuring the depth of freezing and the condition of soils were also considered.
