On the Description of Turbulent Processes in the Ocean Boundary Layer Using LES and RANS Models
摘要
This paper studies the influence of turbulent transfer model on the description of mixing processes in the ocean surface boundary layer (OSBL). The Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model and the RANS model with two types of closures, widely used in ocean models, were used as research tools. The distributions of hydrodynamic characteristics obtained within the framework of the RANS model with closures of two types were compared with the reference LES modeling result. It was shown that the selected closure seriously affects the reproduction of the scalar transport in the OSBL. Conclusions were made about the applicability of widely used mixing schemes, and recommendations for modification were proposed.
