Šuligoj and Kavrečič Božeglav have formulated an innovative model of the accommodation sector shaped and implemented by socialist Yugoslavia in the Upper Adriatic Municipality of Piran-Pirano. The model illuminates the internal incongruities within the Yugoslav socialist framework. Accommodations were provided to the privileged political and economic elite as well as less price-sensitive, discerning international tourists (e.g. good hotels, private second homes, campsites in the Adriatic/Mediterranean environment). Simultaneously, accommodation was offered to the domestic working class, offering holiday options despite their lower economic status and disadvantages (e.g. holiday homes, cheap campsites). Employing a modelling technique often overlooked in tourism history studies, the research illustrates a unique amalgamation of Western and socialist holidaying (accommodating) practices and provides a narrative elucidation of this phenomenon.

摘要
