Introduction and Module 1 Guide
摘要
This chapter provides an outline of presentation slides, facilitator notations, and resources for the training introduction and Module 1 portions of the full-day training curriculum. This relatively brief section of the training is intended to increase staff buy-in regarding their role in supporting prosocial change among incarcerated persons and why this task cannot be the sole responsibility of mental health or rehabilitation staff. This is accomplished by: (1) acknowledging the everyday workplace struggles and burnout experienced by frontline staff and (2) outlining the direct and indirect benefits of uniting with and supporting their colleagues who are leading program implementation efforts. Benefits center around the personal safety and well-being of individual staff, their co-workers, the incarcerated persons they manage, and the communities they are committed to protecting. This portion of the training includes group introductions, an overview of training day expectations, defining criminal thinking, and a facilitated discussion about existing attitudes toward incarcerated persons and their ability to change through structured treatment programs.
