The geographical isolation and volcanic nature of the islands are factors that have contributed to the uniqueness of the flora of the Teide National Park, which is due, above all, to the very high percentage of endemic species, that is, exclusive species that do not exist anywhere else on the planet. There are 36 species that are exclusive to the island of Tenerife and 17 endemic species of the Teide National Park. There are also 14 endemic species present in other Canary Islands and the rest are endemic to two islands or have a wider distribution in the Macaronesian Archipelagos. This chapter describes the most abundant species and their spatial distribution in the National Park represented by georeferenced grids, as well as their level of protection and conservation. For each species, the sections on Habitat and Vegetation Communities of which it is a part are added, Germplasm Banks where it is present and the sheets of the Herbariums where the duly registered specimens are collected.
