This chapter addresses how marginal communities of practice contribute to the dismantling of the large technical system made of obsolete electronic and digital objects. It relies on a field research investigation focused on practitioners in museums archiving computers and video game consoles, video game designers interested in vintage machines, artists who repurpose and reuse technological scraps in their work, as well as small organizations aiming to put unused devices back into circulation for social justice or education. Adopting the format of a visual essay, this contribution highlights how deconstruction happens in the ordinary everyday life of our digital society, and how these marginal practitioners produce various forms of knowledge and know-how about discarded electronics which are generally untapped.
