This concluding chapter reflects on the connotations of the vocabulary and linguistic patterns used by scholars, policymakers, and practitioners when discussing transitions and discontinuations. Through the lens of history of Royaumont Abbey, where the workshop that gave rise to the current volume was held, a site that has witnessed cycles of innovation, decline, and renewal, we examine the political and symbolic implications of terms commonly used to discuss phase-out trajectories. The language often carries negative undertones but also includes references to renewal and rebirth, highlighting the complex and multifaceted nature of transitions.
