The arts and humanities can contribute to everyday peacebuilding by embodying radical poise in the process of democratic political education. A political technê of peacebuilding is open-ended. Its aim in a shifting context like the one we find in Mali is not a final just peace, but rather an education in power capable of disrupting cycles of violence to begin the process of peacebuilding. Everyday peacebuilding effort has two purposes. One is an education in power, which the cultivation of the political virtue of radical poise is concerned with. Its second purpose is to limit negative political emotions and to coordinate positive political virtues. We draw upon the theoretical insights of thinkers such as Roger Mac Ginty, Henri Lefebvre, Michel de Certeau, and John Paul Lederach and the reflections of the multi-media artists William Kentridge and Faith Ringgold. This preliminary integration of theory and practice prepares us for the more complex processes and processions in the succeeding chapters on the theory and practice of radical poise.

摘要
