Craniosynostosis is defined as premature fusion or closure of the calvarial sutures. It may be in association with genetic syndromes, such as Apert, Crouzon or Pfeiffer, or non-syndromic/idiopathic causes. The most common suture affected in craniosynostosis is the sagittal suture, followed by the coronal and metopic. Solitary suture synostosis is also most common, but conditions may arise in wish synostosis may be multi-sutural or associated with facial suture synostosis. The condition is surgically managed and is best treated early on, as chronic synostosis may persistently elevated intracranial pressures and neurodevelopmental disability.
