Lonely Hunters: Intimacy Between (Queer) Women in My Autobiography of Carson McCullers
摘要
This chapter analyzes My Autobiography of Carson McCullers (2020) by Jenn Shapland, which blends a biography of McCullers—revealing often-overlooked aspects of her life suppressed by heteronormative narratives—with Shapland’s personal journey of sexual self-discovery. It examines layers of queer intimacy between Shapland and McCullers, formed across time through an epistolary-like exchange in the acts of reading and writing. The chapter delves into queer temporalities, illustrating how turning to the past illuminates historical connections between women, offering insights into the ways they have formed bonds and shared experiences across generations.
