The Sandwich Generation
摘要
Experiences within middle adulthood including inheriting caring duties for elderly parents and grandchildren whilst seeking identity cohesion through meaningful activities are explored. That potential difficulties also include biological changes and social attitudes towards menopause and andropause signalling a midlife crisis is examined. Potential stress for women undertaking eldercare and grand parenting duties within smaller, geographically displaced families is examined alongside greater ‘ever-parenting’ due to adult children continuing to live in or return to the family home. Consideration is given to experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic including increased social inequalities, domestic abuse, and separation from ill and dying loved ones as well as the need to adjust to a post-Covid era, requiring greater use of technology. Empathetic responses, social and practical support can be helpful.
