This life-stage between 18 and 29 years involves young people concerned with establishing an identity whilst experiencing uncertainty and instability. Brain maturation continues whilst they grapple with new forms of intimacy, pre-existing friendships, finding a career, and developing social skills needed for later reproduction. Influenced by cultural, social, and economic factors, including national movements and technology, they are vulnerable to risks and mental health difficulties. Those emerging adults with long-term conditions/disabilities face additional challenges when transitioning to adult healthcare services and require holistic forms of support. The Covid-19 pandemic severely limited the ability of those in this stage of development to prepare for adulthood. Supportive techniques such as mindfulness have been found to be useful for both emerging adults and their parents.
