Language comprehenders often predict upcoming semantic content or syntactic structures before they are fully articulated. Predictive processing is a critical mechanism for incremental language processing, enabling faster and more efficient understanding. This chapter explores experimental evidence on how Korean comprehenders predict what comes next in unfolding sentences. Studies using online measures such as eye-tracking and ERPs reveal that in Korean, a verb-final language, linguistic cues like the semantics and case marking of preverbal arguments are particularly crucial. Moreover, extralinguistic cues, including visual context and world knowledge, further enhance the effective use of these linguistic cues. The chapter also addresses the challenge of disentangling prediction from integration interpretations of the observed findings and proposes methodological improvements for more accurate measurement of predictive processing.
