This chapter discusses the growing popularization of electronic games, driven by the expansion of digital technologies, and the associated concerns regarding excessive or problematic engagement in this activity. As a result, Gaming Disorder has been included in major diagnostic classifications, such as the ICD-11 and DSM-5-TR. This disorder is characterized by a persistent pattern of gaming involvement, marked by loss of control, prioritization of gaming over other activities, and continued behavior despite impairments in social, academic, and professional domains. The prevalence is higher among young individuals, with a high rate of comorbidities, including anxiety and mood disorders. The underlying neurobiological mechanisms of the disorder are also described, emphasizing the dopaminergic system and dysfunctions in inhibitory control and decision-making. The psychosocial impact includes academic and professional difficulties, interpersonal relationship impairments, and mental health challenges. Evidence-based interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), have proven effective in treating the disorder. Furthermore, the importance of preventive strategies involving the active participation of families, healthcare professionals, and educators is highlighted to mitigate the risks of excessive electronic game use.
