In this chapter we connect the overarching themes, contributions and challenges that were highlighted by the authors in this edition of the handbook. We also provide an overview of the central contributions that this handbook makes to the demography of sexuality, specifically in emphasizing how sexuality is inseparable from various societal domains such as health, work, the family, and fertility; providing overviews of global perspectives in population patterns of sexuality; and considering issues of measurement in how demographic data on sexuality is collected and utilized. We conclude by highlighting the call for a “queering of data” that can produce a more inclusive, reliable and representative demography of sexuality moving forward.
