In this chapter, we examine changes in the demography of sexuality following the publication of the first edition of this handbook. During this time, shifts in how we ask questions on surveys and the availability of data have allowed for greater inquiry into population sexuality. These changes have been driven, in part, by growth in the size of the LGBTQ+ population and shifting political currents that drive the availability and the demand for data. We provide an overview of the chapters within this handbook, highlighting the areas of conceptualization and measurement, global perspectives on sexuality, sexuality across the life course, sexual identities, and sexuality and health outcomes.
